Sunday 4th November (7pm)
Alan Clay
Sedna Consciousness,
the soul's path of destiny

Discover the evolutionary spiritual power of Sedna, the new esoteric outer limit of our solar system and learn of the profound implications for society and for each of us individually in the coming years, as she approaches her closest point to Earth.  This talk by New Zealand astrologer, Alan Clay, pushes back a little on all the victimisation interpretations of the planet that come from the myth and looks a little at Sedna and illness. Alan likes an interactive discussion, so is happy to take questions and give feedback on particular placements, or aspects.
Alan draws the connection between Sedna and the centaur, Pholus, because they both have a 'space weathering' process that turns the surface of each red, so in his mind they both have to do with growth. And he links it with Ceres, because they both likely have internal oceans, so they both speak of a nurturing process. And with Saturn, because their daily rate of spin is the same, so they have the same day to day practical perspective and both speak of limits. Sedna is of course the esoteric new outer limit of the solar system.
Ceres was an asteroid, but was upgraded to be a dwarf planet. We can think of Ceres as the higher octave of the Moon, meaning that the emotional security of the Moon is transmuted into a sustenance and nurturing of our spiritual security and sense of place on Planet Earth with Ceres. This is very similar to Sedna, only Sedna operates on a far vaster scale, so we may find that Sedna is the higher octave of Ceres, where the spiritual security and sense of place on Planet Earth with Ceres, is transmuted into transpersonal nurturing of our spirituality and sense of place in the evolutionary cycle with Sedna.
Alan Clay is a 62 year old astrologer from New Zealand, who is also an award winning film director and novelist. For over 30 years Alan has also conducted a deep research into people, through his extensive work as a clown teacher. Foe the past two years he has been researching a book on Sedna, the new outer limit of the Solar System, which includes comprehensive aspect analysis using all the new dwarf planets. The book was well received at it’s launch at the United Astrology Conference in Chicago in May. Alan will also be lecturing on Sedna at the State of The Art Astrology Conference in New York State in October.  www.sednaconsciousness.com

Cracking the Code:
Working with the Table of Essential Dignities

Have you ever wondered why some of your natal planets have power and oomph in your chart while others hardly get a look in? The ancient Table of Essential Dignities is a powerful code cracker to understanding how much influence the planets have to operate. The more power a planet has the better it can act and show itself at its best.

Looking at this table with regard to Horary Astrology, it can be the key to showing who has the most influence or power in a contest, who might win the contract or gain the job, or whether the job is worth going for at all. Using modern Horary chart examples, we will
look at this table in-depth giving insights both for Horary and Natal astrologers.

Rozlyn began her astrology studies 30 years ago with the Rosicrucian Fellowship based in the USA. Astrology has been a lifelong interest culminating in 2016 with achieving the Diploma of Astrology from the FAA, and also the certificate in Horary from the STA. She is a current member of the AANSW.
Rozlyn specialises in the ancient technique of Horary. She utilises both traditional and modern astrology methods to bring rich perspective to the questions clients bring.

Rozlyn is also a co-director and owner of Noble Performance Solutions – a business/leadership consulting organisation and has applied Horary astrology with international executives during times of transition/change.
Originally from New Zealand, Rozlyn has lived in Australia for nearly 20 years. She is a keen adventurer, participating in expeditions climbing, hiking, rafting and skiing around the globe.

Class with Colleen
Chain Reaction: the Astrology of Cycles and Returns

The most fundamental, and certainly the most predictable aspect to astrology is unquestionably the carefully choreographed path each planet follows. They dance alone, partner and change partners as they systematically spin their way through a preordained cosmic dance. Our natal chart initiates our relationship with each and every planet, and as time passes day by day, year after year, cycle upon cycle, a complex mix of planetary relationships weaves its way into the tapestry of our life.

Cycles are not random and returns are not isolated, as with all things astrological they are simply a part of the whole, each is independent of, but inter-dependent on the next. This class will look at returns; explain their generic meanings, and concentrating on those from Jupiter out, we will investigate how each one impacts on our life. The main focus of the class, however, will be on how the return (or cycle), of one planet dovetails into the return of another, and how this builds into a chain reaction of cause and effect.

As we grow up and then grow old we do so via a ladder of planetary movement, sometimes progressions and sometimes transit—all of which are part of the cycles we were born into. This class is about putting order into these stages of growth and personal development, and how to best take advantage of the inevitable chain reaction.

Cutting through the Chaos:
Honing Housekeeping in your Horoscopy
with Graham Ibell

Psychologically-oriented astrologers are often excellent at approaching a chart from an archetypal, internal and dynamic perspective. But we often fall down when trying to meet our client’s real-world needs. Today we will explore ways of using the houses and house rulers to engage more specifically, externally and personally with a natal chart.

Graham studied at the Centre for Psychological Astrology in London, graduating with the Diploma in 2000. He has practiced and taught astrology in the UK and New Zealand for over 20 years, and has clients and students throughout the world. He has tutored for the Mayo school since 2010. Graham’s work is supported by four years’ training in Process Oriented Psychology, extensive study and use of the I Ching, and training with the Intention School of Storytelling. His other passions are music, poetry, nature and his four children.

Declinations, the Parallel Aspect

In the scheme of things it is not that long since declinations, the parallel and contra parallel aspects, were seen to be as relevant as all the other Ptolemaic aspects. In fact it is rather strange that they slipped off the aspect grid just when computer programmes made them so readily available with no effort and no mathematical skill required.

Declinations are a simple tool: they create aspects based on celestial latitudeas opposed to celestial longitude—the every day aspects such as conjunctions, oppositions etc. In simple terms these normal aspects are measurement of the distance between planets going around the ecliptic while declinations are the measurement of the distance between the planets going up and down from the ecliptic.

Declinations give a different perspective; not just on the planets involved but more importantly to the aspects between any given planets—more often than not planets with a connection by declinations will also be in a relationship via regular aspects.

This class is about what declinations ‘do,’ how they impact on planetary connections (aspects) and how most importantly they can provide a secret weapon, or inner strength, when the chart is under siege. We will look at declinations by transit and by progression, but most importantly we will look at your declinations—this is a hands on workshop which will work primarily with class charts—so be sure to provide your details when you register.  This class is suitable for all levels—hope you join in.

Jillian Whyte
Destiny by Design or Default

Jillian will present the ‘Language of Success’ through the understanding of the North and South Nodes in one’s birth chart. Why is it so hard for some to 'leave home’ and others not? How astrologers may assist their clients, themselves, and significant others in taking a fresh look at the birth chart with a deeper understanding of these two important parts of the birth chart.  How a better understanding of the North and South Nodes may assist the interpretation of the rest of the chart, progressions, transits, solar and lunar returns. 'Where are we going and where have we been' and why the North Node is essential for weaving something entirely new in our lives that has never existed before.

Electional Astrology - to seize the perfect moment!

Electional astrology, sometimes referred as event astrology, hails originally from the same traditional stable as mundane astrology, and is a close second cousin to horary. Early records show that a simplified form of electional astrology was used historically by the Babylonians, to set the most fortuitous day and time to do battle. While the rules may have changed little over time the application has expanded to include just about any human activity.

This class is about how to go about finding the best day and time for the most common of these activities. We will revisit the all important lunation cycle which forms the wallpaper of all electional charts and similarly investigate the rules and strictures which are fundamental to all electional work irrespective of the
activity or event.

We will the move on to the specifics, the rules and application of the wedding chart, when to and not to book surgery, what we should look for when opening a business, holding an event, or planning that bucket list trip etc.

This class is about making astrology work for you in everyday life, it will explain the rules and more importantly show how to circumnavigate them when time, circumstance, or planetary position simply does not let you follow them to the
letter.

Sunday 4th March (7pm)
Mike Kirk
cycles, fractals, and the coming crash
Modern mathematician Mandelbrot coined ‘fractals’ to describe how phenomena vary in frequency and scale (intensity). Like water and air turbulence and many other phenomena, fractals help explain why share prices do not follow average distributions but rather have extremes and then long flat periods when nothing much happens. That sounds like life!

It is all very Uranian and so was Mandelbrot (Mars and Uranus conjunct in Pisces)

Uranus and its cycle and division of its cycles by three will be discussed, as will probability (which is a scientific term for what astrologers call forecasting) and what Mike sees as the coming crash in stock markets and market economies in a manner exceeding that of 2007-09. So we will also look at the Dow Jones chart, the USA and the three cycles of Uranus into the 243 years of a Pluto cycle (roughly).

Forecasting rests on ‘memories’ of cycles over long periods, not exact transits etc. The same goes for individual forecasting.

Horary Astrology with Rozlyn Noble

Horary astrology is an ancient branch of astrology used for finding specific answers to specific questions.
This Introductory workshop will reveal a systematic approach to successfully understanding and interpreting a horary astrology chart.
The principle is that at the moment a question is clarified in the mind – the birth time of the question – the answer is also there and

the interpretation of this chart is done based on that information. All questions, from lost objects, relationships, real estate to career issues – these can be answered using horary.
During this one-day workshop, you will understand the main dimensions of horary including looking at significators; identifying and assigning the correct planets, traditional sign rulerships, houses and how the significators have the power to act and reveal the answer to the question.
This will be a highly interactive day so we learn from each other as well as the content provided. There will be many handouts, practical exercises and charts to study.
If you would like to practice with horary charts of your own (and are willing to share with the group) please send one chart only to me in advance (or send the question) and we will look at these charts during the final hour of the class.

Off to the Races

With the Melbourne Cup coming up on Tuesday the 7th of November it may be a good time to see if astrology can help us to predict a winner. Over 50 years ago the English astrologer, John Addey, published his astrological horse racing system in the Astrological Journal. Come along to explore how his system works and see if you can beat the bookies on the big day! As a bonus, we will be using Janus 5 astrology software which will be released later in the year.

Thank your Lucky Stars!

Once upon a time, probably up until the Renaissance, the fixed stars were celebrated as part of the foundation of all astrology. But the introduction of exciting new tools and theories, and the advent of a more humanistic and psychological approach to natal astrology, meant that the popularity of fixed stars, with their apparent fatalistic attitudes of the middle ages, slowly faded away.

They may have been forgotten, but the fixed stars have not gone away. In fact, their association with, and their places in various constellations, twelve of which make up our zodiac, can only emphasise that they are, as they have  always been, part of the foundation of astrology.

This class is about the lost magic of the fixed stars, and how easy it is to apply that magic not only to natal astrology, with all its psychological nuances, but it will also show just how much the fixed stars can influence the outcome in mundane and electional astrology. The class will use the rich and famous to illustrate the point but will primarily work with class charts.

Do you have a lucky star to wish upon?  Join the class and find out.

Fate and Free Will

No, not a class debating the age old question!  We know that Eastern Astrology has a predisposition towards ‘fate,' traditional astrology has some pretty explicit rules as to your success in life while modern western astrology offers choice and the freedom to create our own reality.

Fate and free will exist, often side by side in the birth chart but not always in equal measure.  We may accept that there are some things we cannot change just as we know there are things we can—the key is do we always know the difference?  This class is about that difference, it will investigate the karmic points in the natal chart and travel the cycles which help shape our destiny. In the words of Steven Forrest this class is about ‘choosing the right weapon,’ it's about using our free will productively, often to make the most of what we might have reluctantly considered our fate.

An Introduction to
Horary Astrology

Horary astrology is an ancient branch of astrology used for finding specific answers to specific questions. The principle is that at the moment a question is clarified in the mind—the birth time of the question—the answer is also there and the interpretation of this chart is done based on that information.
When interpreting a natal chart, the astrologer is usually able to converse with the owner of a chart in order to verify and confirm the patterns of behaviour revealed.  However, with the Horary chart, every clue must be analysed to come to a conclusive answer.  Therefore a thorough understanding of the houses, planets, and signs must be used to ‘crack the code’ and understand the message of the stars.
Answering questions can reveal that deeper questions lie behind the initial question as the querent seeks to understand the wider significance of the situation troubling them. It is not a prediction of the future but an explanation of the present. When significant moments in time are sought to find the answer to a question, these times are not randomly selected. The interpretation and analysis of that moment can show the inter-relatedness and synchronicity in our world.
In this presentation, the use and meaning of traditional techniques in reading the chart are outlined and how this ancient knowledge can be combined with a modern psychological perspective to give
nsight into the real answer being sought.

The Birth Chart—
an Evolutionary approach to your
Soul Purpose
 Marc Laurenson

The birth chart is a map or guideline of your soul intention. It is basically what you wanted to experience when you incarnated for the sake of growth and expansion. It is often called your ‘cosmic fingerprint’ opening the path to your highest potential.
In this workshop, we learn how to bring the natal chart to life with all its glory and its challenges. We will discuss how to make sense to the client, giving them the ‘why’ behind any blocks that may be hindering their progress. We also learn how to empower them by flowing with their chart, owning their truth, authenticity and purpose. A focus will be directed toward the Lunar Nodes and the influences they hold in this present life and how to use them as major healing tools.
Both clients and participant’s charts will be used for hands-on practice putting the symbols to work in a real-life setting.
Marc bought his first Astrology Book at age 10 and was smitten from the word go. Identifying Addictive Patterns
and how to heal them

There is much more to addiction than just substance abuse. We are all addicted to something.
The overwhelming need for love, power, approval, control or just the need to judge or ‘be right’. This can be extremely damaging and it gets in the way of the creative flow in our lives.
Using chart examples, we will discuss the indicators that can display our habitual behaviour, why it is there and the healing remedies to get us back on track.

Rectification—Perfecting an approximate birth time

Does time really matter?  There is so much more to a correct birth time than simply finding what sign is rising!  The exact time of birth gives the exact degrees on the angles which are the back bone of any chart.  No matter what house system you use, the angles, Ascendant and MC dictate the intermediary house cusps by sign, degree and minute, it is of course from this point that planets fall into the houses—only the exact birth time will have them fall into the right house.

But of course there is more—by their very nature of being completely personal and individual the angles are the most sensitive point of the natal chart and their accuracy is crucial to timing any form of predictive astrology. Minutes out on an angle can mean years out on a prediction.

This class follows on from creating a speculative chart using the Brady Rectification Graph; the class is designed to check any approximate birth time, or any chart which has be created by any form of speculation, or even by non-astrological means. It also probably means 95% of given birth times that fall on the hour, half or even quarter hour. Working with class charts, yours or one you wish to verify—using a few good dates and a few tricks and tips we will work at proving or disproving the birth time. This process is not difficult but it is extremely gratifying when just a small shift in birth time changes the whole perspective, and it may be as simple as the inclusion of an intercepted sign.  To give us a head start on the day please send in your data when you register—and let’s see just how much ‘time can matter.’

Rectification and the Speculative Chart

So, what time were you born? In a perfect world, as every baby was born it would be magically stamped with the exact time—hour, minute, second and part there of!  But we know the world is far from perfect and as students of astrology we know that even accurate birth times come in degrees of exactness and likewise unknown birth times come with a similar sliding scale of time accuracy or inaccuracy. So, what do we do? Strictly speaking the term rectification refers to ‘rectifying’ or fine tuning an approximately birth time—anything more than minutes of time and it goes from rectification to speculation. Of course, the go-to method for a completely unknown birth time is either the sunrise or noon chart—both are helpful in their own way, but somehow always seem a little generic and incomplete.

The chart raised either by astrological methods, intuition, feelings or some other method of divination will always, and can only ever be regarded as speculation—hence the term ‘speculative chart.’   But not all methods of creating a speculative chart are created equal, and there are systems based on sound astrological principals which certainly create a chart that looks, feels and works just like the real thing.

This is a double class, held over two Sundays in consecutive months, it will however be constructed so that each class can stand alone. The first class on the 23rd April will concentrate on the most straight forward and the most reliable method of creating a speculative birth chart—the Brady rectification method, which was developed by Bernadette Brady, the prominent South Australian astrologer is simple: it takes a series of life events, works backwards with transits, and by using a process of elimination establishes the Ascendant and MC.  The rules are straight forward, it is a lot of fun and with a few life events you can prove the accuracy of your own ‘known’ birth time.

Class Two on 21st May will concentrate on tying down a known or approximate birth time, including proving and verifying (as much we can) a speculative chart as per the system used in Class One.  Every astrologer has pet subjects, this has always been one of mine, not just for the thrill of arriving at a conclusion but also because you see the symbology and subtleties of astrology come to life. These will be two lively classes, in the end you will find you have learnt a lot more astrology than what it takes to rectify a chart—hope you join us.

The Importance of Transits, Eclipses, and Progressions to the Natal Nodes
Victoria Finch, based near Boulder and Denver, Colorado, USA, has been a practicing astrologer for more than 30 years.  Her specialty is Evolutionary Astrology, popularized in recent years by Steven Forrest, Jeffrey Wolf Green, and Maurice Fernandez, who are her mentors and teachers.  Her interest in astrology, karma, and reincarnation began in her college years when she read Autobiography of a Yogi, written by Paramahansa Yogananda.  In 1987, she began studies in Vedic astrology and first learned of the sidereal zodiac and importance of the nodes of the moon.  At that time, she also began casual readings for family and friends.
In 2002, Victoria moved to the Boulder, Colorado area where she studied with Sandraleigh Serio, a well known American astrologer, who is also president of Rocky Mountain Astrologers.  Victoria switched her interest from Vedic astrology to Evolutionary Astrology and attended workshops with EA astrologers who were friends and colleagues of Sandraleigh.
Victoria has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Journalism and Marketing from Texas State University, and a Masters Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Texas.  She is a member of Rocky Mountain Astrologers (ROMA), and has attended seminars over the years at ISAR, UAC, the Faculty of Astrological Studies at Exeter College, Oxford, and the Federation of Australian Astrologers.

Class with Colleen
Overloaded Houses Revisited

During the mid 1970s Donn and Leone Forrest, prominent Auckland astrological teachers and the founders of the Astrological Society of New Zealand, introduced three major new concepts—each of these being the result of working with students and clients over a long period of time.  At the second ever FAA conference in Adelaide in 1978, Don introduced the theory of Overloaded Houses. It wowed the audience of prominent Australian and American astrologers, thereafter becoming a tool in the astrological kit bag of his many students—I was one of those students and for 40 years I have been working with this and the other two theories—Lacks in the Chart and The Generation Aspects.

This class will concentrate on overloads, and by that I mean any house in a natal chart which is home to four or more planets. However, years of experience have shown that overloads very often produce lacks, or it may even be the other way around and the lack of a missing element in a chart creates an overloaded house—either way the class will incorporate the combination of the two concepts where appropriate. The class will investigate the original theory, how it works, and how the individual can get the best from a focal point which contains such concentrated planetary energy. The class will also investigate how the theory has ‘matured,’ noting how it has stood the test of time, looking at the refinements and sub themes which have emerged since overloads were first introduced.

The theory of overloads came from shared knowledge between teachers, clients and students. This class will follow suit so if you have four or more planets in a particular house, if you are lacking an element, or if you have charts in your folder that do—this is a class you will enjoy being part of—just send the birth data when you register.

The Hidden Dimension—
The Lunar Phase Personality

The synodic cycle between the Sun and the Moon is the simplest and most fundamental of all cycles.   While there is much focus on the lunation cycle in mundane astrology, there is little attention paid to the phase of the Moon into which an individual is born. While house, sign placement and aspects obviously have great bearing, there are distinct patterns of behaviour and attitude discernible from the angular relationship between the luminaries at the time of birth.  This lecture concentrates on the lunation cycle in natal astrology firstly illustrating how the new Moon before birth influences the nature of the individual, and then tracking the personal traits of each phase as the Sun and Moon move through the eight phases from one conjunction to the next.

The Gods of Astrology

Exploring just how much the old gods inform our modern astrology. Fern’s early astrological learning was infused with mythological wisdom as an underpinning of astrology in the 1970's and 80's. Nowadays, in this technological, scientific and business-orientated age, do the Olympian gods hold any relevance?
Fern has recently been in Greece where her passion for the classical gods was re-awakened and deepened. She has been practicing and teaching astrology since the early 1990's.

Pulling it all Together—Combining Predictive Techniques

Predictive astrology comes in many forms and while the common thread is to forecast the conditions surrounding an individual at any given time not all techniques are created equal. Some predictive methods such as cycles, and to a certain extent secondary progressions, plot the growth and development as one passes through predestined and generic milestones. While the more dynamic techniques, namely solar arc directions and transits from the outer planets, herald change of a more dramatic nature.

So what goes with what? When do we use one technique over another and how do we reconcile the positive of one system over the negative in another? This class will look at how the various systems can dovetail together—it will look at how the more developmental systems, such as the progressed lunation cycle or the Saturn cycle, create the backdrop behind which the more dynamic forms play out their theme.

It is true, the choice of predictive systems can be daunting, which often means that we resort to the ‘technique of choice’ and ignore the more colourful picture which is created when we layer various techniques.  This class is about painting a more colourful picture!

Fit to Rule?

Who are today’s leaders and presumptive heirs to immense power? Beyond the extraordinary spectacle of the US presidential campaign we may wonder—are either of the two main nominees actually fit to rule? We know that both Clinton and Trump are the most unpopular presidential candidates in US history. Why are they so disliked and how did it get to where American voters, for the most part, feel they have to vote for the 'lesser of two evils' rather than for what they want? Through the lens of Medieval Astrology we will look at leadership styles and their relevance in today’s world.

Group Discussion

Many Happy Returns

Solar return charts are certainly not a new technique, in fact with their origins pre-dating the Hellenistic period, a couple of hundred years BFC (BC), they are probably amongst the oldest forms of predictive astrology. However, like many traditional techniques solar returns have weathered ebbs and flows in popularity, with the rules modifying and changing to meet the trend of the times—even in fact to suit the two different zodiacs. But in spite of changes and the many varying opinions about them, solar returns have remained one of the simplest methods of forecasting the immediate future.

The solar return chart, often referred to as the ‘birthday’ chart, is set for the time when the Sun returns to its natal position. This class will look at the various options available, but will concentrate on the simplest and most straightforward method to evaluate the year ahead.

Solar returns are probably one of the best examples of a happy marriage between traditional techniques and modern psychological astrology. It’s simple, direct and short term—no astrologer should be without it!

Carmella O'Treasaig

Chiron and Neptune

Carmel Treacy explores the transits of Chiron and Neptune in Pisces in relationship to her experiences these past few years and its manifestation thus far on a collective level.
Carmel has been working as a psychic astrologer at HealthWorld Westgate for 18 months or so and in that time has read for numerous clients. Carmel is looking forward to sharing some stories with her fellow astrologers.

Horary – Plain and Simple

Horary astrology is perhaps the most fascinating and yet the most daunting of all forms of divination. They say it is the ‘father’ of all things astrological, even natal astrology was spawned by horary way back when the astrologer could lose his head if his judgment was deemed incorrect. Things have changed! Natal has branched out in many different directions while horary has evolved into something less exclusive, yet it has never lost its integrity—countless millennia may have dulled the authority of the horary astrologer, and the ‘old may be new again,’ but the rules have never fundamentally changed.

This class will look at those rules in the simplest fashion possible, delving into the works of some horary astrologers who while no longer ‘fashionable’ did at least provide good solid text—enough to keep the faith alive and students interested while the astrological world waited for the renaissance of the real thing!

This class will not equip you with a diploma of horary astrology à la William Lilly—but it might just whet your appetite enough for you to go chase one!

Matariki, Māori cultural astronomy...
what is this 'renaissance' about?

As an Aussie astrologer who has trouble getting her tongue around Māori words, I am majorly fascinated by my latest academic research on comparative cosmologies. Indigenous stargazing has really come of age here in Aotearoa-New Zealand. The sheer synchronicity that we are meeting on the June 5 New Moon that signals the beginning of Matariki and the rising of the Pleiades, makes me brave enough to let you all laugh at my accent. Come along and correct me - please!

Celebrating Saturn

The relationship we have with our natal Saturn rarely starts with 'love at first sight.' and for many the path to an easy co-existence is littered with repeated scenarios of loss and lost opportunities as we pit our will against our personal master of control and restraint. But when Saturn wins we win—and somewhere along the way, in time, we learn that the formidable foe makes the most valuable friend.
This class is ‘all about Saturn.' We will consider Saturn by sign, by house, and most importantly by aspects, because our perspective of Saturn is often just a matter of degrees.
And of course you can’t have Saturn without considering its all-important planetary cycle, and the often life-bending Saturn Return; this will be the main focus of the class, with special attention given to the second return around the age of 59.

Time to celebrate the task master—personal stories and experience most welcome!

Auckland Vedic Workshop
Saturday 25 June 2016
by
Terry MacKinnell

Vedic-Western Fusion Astrologer
macro-astrology.com/author/

An Introduction to Vedic Astrology

In the morning we will review the basic differences between Vedic and western astrology including the basic precepts in Vedic astrology.
Following this, we will examine some Vedic charts to demonstrate the effectiveness of Vedic astrology to describe important issues in a person’s life.  Example charts may include Steve Jobs, Julian Assange & Donald Trump.  If any attendee would like a specific well known person’s Vedic chart examines as part of the workshop, please email me their names (and birth) data at least one week before the workshop to mackinnell@msn.com.au
The afternoon session will be more free form.  Usually I collect the Vedic charts of the willing participants and do a quick review demonstrating some of the key techniques of Vedic interpretation.

Participants of the workshop should bring a copy of their Vedic chart if they wish to be a guinea pig in the afternoon session.

Workshop notes will be provided electronically to participants after the workshop plus a suggested reading list.

The method of producing a Vedic chart is simple in most astrological software:

First elect to have only the visible planets, north and south nodes and ascendant included in the chart – exclude Uranus, Neptune and Pluto

Secondly, select whole sign houses.  This means that if your sidereal ascendant is 12 degrees Taurus, the first house is from 0 degrees Taurus to 30 degrees Taurus and so on.
Thirdly, select the sidereal zodiac instead of the tropical zodiac – in SolarFire, pick the Lahiri sidereal zodiac.

About Terry MacKinnell

I was born at 8:48 am on 14 December 1951 in Sydney, Australia.  and have been privately studying astrology since 1972.  This includes extensive study of Western and Vedic astrology and some experience with Chinese astrology.  In Western astrology I have over 40 years’ experience in applying Lilith, the Dark Moon to the natal and predictive charts.  I have also been studying Vedic astrology since 1986.  I have had numerous articles published around the world on the study of the precessional ages such as the Age of Aquarius, Age of Pisces and so on and in 2011 I published my first book The Dawning - Shedding New Light on the Astrological Ages

I first encountered Vedic astrology in the mid-1980s when I attended a local council funded course in northern NSW, Australia on Hindu astrology run by a former Krishna devotee who had learnt Hindu astrology while he was in an ashram in India.  At the end of this multi-week course I was totally confused about nearly everything in Hindu astrology.  Nevertheless I persevered and bought James Braha’s book “Ancient Hindu Astrology for the Modern Western Astrologer”.  After reading this book a number of times, I started constructing Hindu astrology charts. By 2003 I felt confident about running
my first multi-week Vedic astrology course on the Gold Coast.  I continued my study into Vedic astrology and around 2012 I hit the tipping point when I finally had incorporated all the main ingredients of Vedic interpretation and could provide very accurate consultations.

I am an active western and Vedic astrologer which places me in an ideal situation for introducing western astrologers to Vedic astrology as I already recognize the strengths in each system.  This is why I call myself a Vedic-Western fusion astrologer.

Astrology: The Pursuit of Prediction

Mike Kirk explores whether astrology can be reliably used for prediction. Along the way he examines philosophy and symbolism, linear causation, fate and free will, left brain versus right brain, the 'Law of Correspondence', quantum physics, and context (Houses) among other things.

Solar Arc collides with Ziggy Stardust

Solar arc directions are an extremely graphic form of dynamic astrology—the symbolic pictures they paint when they are layered on the natal chart can either represent a thumbnail of the actual events or simply ‘red flag’ a critical time in a person's life. Like other forms of predictive astrology the activations we receive in the early years of life herald that which is to come later.

Using solar arc directions, transits and the secondary progressed Moon, this class will follow the stellar career of the magical David Bowie.  Not only will we take an extremely graphic journey via solar arc but we will also pay homage to a very special soul.  And yes, then we will then come back to earth to look at the solar arc red flags in class charts.

This promises to be an extremely interesting class!

Solar Arc Directions

Solar Arc Directions are probably the oldest form of predictive astrology, they are certainly the simplest to calculate and provide the most dynamic results of all predictive systems. Why then are they often regarded as a poor relation to secondary progressions?  Most likely because they are misunderstood!

Solar Arc Directions may be simple and direct, but they do have rules, and to get results these rules need to be followed; a hotchpotch of rules from other systems simply downgrades this valuable tool.

This class will follow the creed of the master; it will cover the simple rules, investigate the value of mid-points in predictions and explain once again the importance of the Sun in the horoscope and how by applying its movement to all planets and points we have an extremely forceful predictive tool—one that can even be done without a computer!

Solar Arc Directions are too important for any astrologer to leave out of their tool box.

Exploring Your Shadow Through Astrology
with Bud Barber

Sunday October 18th
Full Day Workshop 10am-9pm
Te Henga Studios, Bethells Beach

You’re an amazing mystery with a wild spirit and a lofty purpose, but like all of us, you also have a dark side – a part of your psyche that snarls and bites, that’s unconscious and irrational, that’s motivated by ill will, twisted passions or instinctual fears. If you acknowledge its existence at all (many of us don’t), you may call it the devil, your evil twin or your 'personal demon.’ Psychologist Carl Jung referred to it as ‘the shadow' & regarded it as the lead that authentic alchemists of the Middle Ages sought to transmute into gold.

Astrologer Bud Barber has a different name for the shadow: Stuff! Work on your stuff or your stuff will work on you - it will sabotage you if you’re not attentive. Because the shadow is hard to detect within our personas & often entirely unconscious, finding & identifying it can be difficult, much less negotiating with & transforming it. Similar to what astronomers say regarding black holes - it’s impossible to see anything that absorbs light, so the only way to detect it is by it's influence on everything around.

Fortunately your astrology chart provides an amazing tool for detecting this hidden or dark aspect of self, & this workshop will help you identify, negotiate with & ultimately transform it into gold*

Bud has been practicing as an AFA certified astrologer for over 40 years – with the American Federation of Astrologers since 1974, and with the FAA (Federation of Australian Astrologers) since 1983. From 1975 to 82, he was personal astrologer for Baba Muktananda and his ashram, where he did readings for famous guests like Diana Ross & Cher. After Baba's death, he moved to Melbourne & has been giving astrology consultations there & world wide ever since, including readings for actors, directors & performers such as Johnny Depp, William Hurt & Diane Keating. Bud is also a Traditional Tantra Yoga & meditation teacher with strong interest in Jungian psychology, Eastern Mysticism & Western Mystery Schools, which informs his astrological practice.

Shared lunch (afternoon tea & soup for dinner provided)
$150/$130 concession | $100 for previous astrology clients

Transfers to Swanson Train Station available by arrangement

Bud will be in Auckland from October 13-26 & is available for private readings ($70 or $50 if doing workshop)

Email Bud at  budbarber@hotmail.com for more information or to send through your chart details*
